Trade Deficit Widens Again: Expect More Trump Howls


Trump is sure to howl over this month’s trade report. The trade deficit rose again.

The BEA’s Advance International Trade report shows the deficit in February rose by 0.1 percent to $75.4 billion. However, the BEA revised January from a deficit of $74.4 billion to a deficit of $75.3 billion.

  • The international trade deficit was $75.4 billion in February, up $0.1 billion from $75.3 billion in January.
  • Exports of goods for February were $136.5 billion, $2.9 billion more than January exports.
  • Imports of goods for February were $211.9 billion, $3.0 billion more than January imports.
  • Effectively, the deficit increased by $1.0 billion, 1.3% not 0.1%.

    The widening deficit is sure to bring howls from Trump.
