E The Employment Rates For Male Workers And Youth Have Still Not Caught Up With 2008 Levels

It is quite evident that the world’s job market recovery since 2010 has been uneven among countries and between different demographic groups. Indeed, judged by employment levels, young people and male workers are still behind where they were in 2008.

As the two charts illustrate, the employment recovery among the advanced nations still remains uneven.

While in the OECD area employment rates for prime-age workers have now recovered to their pre-crisis levels, the employment rates of male workers and youth are still below 2008 levels. As well, the wage picture has been dismal, as average real wages have grown only by 0.2% per year since 2008 in the OECD countries.

This has, of course, exacerbated income inequality issues across all of the OECD countries.
