AI PCs Shipments About To Double This Year
The AI PC market is about to explode more than doubling from 10% of shipments in 2023 to 22% in 2024. Indeed, according to the research firm, Canalys, the AI PCs sector is set to rise at a compound annual growth rate of 64% between now and 2027 making up 37% of all PCs shipped in 2025, 53% in 2026 and 60% in 2027.

What Are “AI PCs”?
“AI PCs” are AI-enabled personal computers outfitted with chips (neural processing units, or NPUs) capable of running large-language models and apps directly on the device, instead of the cloud.
 What Is Their Unique Selling PropositionAI PCs enable AI to be run locally on the computers themselves and to be used whenever and wherever – even without an internet connection.
 Which Companies Have Or Will Be Launching AI PCs in 2024?Below is what the pure-play publicly traded PC manufacturers* have in the works for introduction in 2024 or, in some cases, have already done so, their stock performances last week, in descending order, and YTD and the latest news, analysis and commentary on them

  • Dell Technologies Inc. (DELL)

    • has a totally redesigned, and more powerful, AI-capable PC (see here) on the market already with AI acceleration built into the device thanks to Intel Core Ultra processors and experiences brought to life by Windows 11.
  • Lenovo Group Limited (LNVGY)

    • unveiled a full lineup of more than 40 new devices and solutions powered by AI at CES 2024 in Las Vegas this past January (see here) that personalize the computing experience for both consumers and businesses like never before but they are not yet on the market.
  • Motorola Solutions Inc. (MSI)

    • introduced the next-generation of AI-powered gaming desktops last October featuring the 14th generation Intel processor (see here).
  • HP, Inc. (HPQ)

    • plans to introduce their AI PC  this July/August (see here) and projects that the penetration of the AI PCs will be between 40% and 60% within 3 years.
  • Microsoft (MSFT)

    • has introduced its first Copilot+ PCs, the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6, to support upcoming new AI features in Windows 11.  The first Copilot+ laptops are now available to preorder at prices starting at US$999.
  • Apple, Inc. (AAPL)

    • has announced that it is overhauling its Mac computers by fitting them with new state-of-the-art M4 processors in a bid to boost sales which fell 27% in 2023 to enable them to be better positioned to catch up with their rivals and to launch the first Macs with M4 processors before the end of 2024.
  •  Samsung

    • Samsung Electronics is making 2024 the year of the AI PC with the release of its most powerful and intelligent Galaxy Book product line yet, the Galaxy Book4 series that is packed with cutting-edge technology that aims to not only simplify but amplify users’ computing experience. Its AI PCs will be launched next week (w/e June 28) at prices ranging from $1,350 to $1,750 depending on the model selected. 
  • Acer

    • has announced its plans to introduce 3 new Swift laptops that will be available with new Intel Core Ultra processors featuring Intel AI Boost with power-efficient AI acceleration and Intel Arc GPU[, complementing features such as Microsoft Copilot in Windows, noise reduction, and Acer video enhancement technology. The Acer Swift 14 AI (SF14-11) will be available in North America in July, starting at USD 1,099, and in EMEA in June, starting at EUR 1,499.
  • Asus 

    • unveiled its latest AI PC, the ASUS Copilot+ PC, last month. It is PC is powered by AI-enabled processors, offering enhanced security, speed, and personalization with an integrated AI engine, Copilot in Windows, and a suite of powerful ASUS AI applications. The launch date and selling price have yet to be announced.
       
  • ConclusionIf the AI PCs category does, in fact, rise at the projected CAGR of 64% between now and 2027 we can expect the AI PC revolution to really take off later in 2024 when all 9 of the above participants are fully participating.
